About Ao Nang
Ao Nang is a seaside resort in Krabi province that locals often simply call 'Krabi'. It lies on a wide bay with limestone cliffs and is the starting point for boat trips to the surrounding islands. In the town you find a long beach promenade, restaurants, small shops and a night market. Longtail boats reach Railay and Phra Nang in a short time, where you can climb, swim and kayak. Popular day trips go to the Hong islands, Phi Phi and the four islands. About 7 km to the west lies Fossil Shell Beach, with a layer of 40-million-year-old shells. Ao Nang is a good base for those seeking comfort, but the sea can be rough from May to October and boat trips may be cancelled.
Best time to visit (indicative)
Best from November to April: dry, sunny and calm seas. September and October are the wettest months; from May to October the sea is often rough and some boat trips do not run. Weather varies from year to year; this is a guideline based on the climate.
Getting there
