About Krabi Town
Krabi Town is the capital of Krabi province and lies on the Krabi River, not far from the mouth. For many travellers it is mostly a transit point to the beaches, but the town is pleasant and has a relaxed atmosphere. Along the river runs a promenade with eateries, and at weekends there is a night market. Wat Kaew Korawaram, a white temple that resembles a wedding cake, is among the best known. To the south lies the hill Wat Tham Sua, the Tiger Cave Temple, with a long staircase up to a viewpoint. Khao Khanab Nam, two limestone rocks, is the symbol of Krabi and is reached in fifteen minutes by longtail boat. In town you also find the Contemporary Art Museum. From here you book boat trips to the surrounding islands.
Best time to visit (indicative)
Best from November to April: dry, sunny and calm seas. September and October are the wettest months; from May to October the sea is often rough and some boat trips do not run. Weather varies from year to year; this is a guideline based on the climate.
Getting there
From Bangkok by flight (about 1.5 hours) to Krabi Airport, about 15 minutes from town; Ao Nang lies roughly 20 km further on. Distances and travel times are rounded estimates.
