About Prachin Buri
Prachin Buri is the capital of the province of the same name in eastern Thailand and is often used as the southern gateway to Khao Yai National Park. The town itself is quiet and provincial and lies on the Prachin River. In the surroundings you find old Dvaravati sites, temples and nature areas. The nearby Prachinburi National Park has waterfalls and forest, and it is a good base for anyone visiting the Khao Yai mountains from the south. The region is less visited than other parts of the country, so you experience plenty of peace. For the best experience look at weekdays and the cooler months. The town itself is mainly practical: there are hotels, markets and simple restaurants, and you can easily travel on with your own transport.
Best time to visit (indicative)
Best from November to February: drier and less hot, with calmer seas for beaches and boats. May to October is the rainy season, though showers are often short; March to May is very hot. Weather varies from year to year; this is a guideline based on the climate.
Getting there
From Bangkok by bus or car (about 2.5 to 3 hours); buses also run from Nakhon Ratchasima and Sa Kaeo. Distances and travel times are rounded estimates.
