About Betong

Betong lies at the southernmost point of Thailand, in Yala province, and is surrounded by mountains, which makes the climate cool and humid. The town has a strong Chinese character, with colourful facades, eateries and the well-known Betong chicken. A quirky attraction is the biggest mailbox in Thailand. Nearby are the Piyamit Tunnels, where communist fighters once hid, and the Aiyerweng Skywalk, a glass bridge on a mountain with views over a sea of mist. The Malaysian border is close by. Betong is calmer than the rest of the deep southern provinces, but always check current travel advice. It is a special destination for those seeking cool mountain air and a different atmosphere. Betong is reached by a winding mountain road of about 140 km from Yala. Along the way the road climbs through rainforest and it becomes noticeably cooler.

Indicative: driest from February to April. Betong lies in the mountains and is cool and humid all year, with plenty of mist and rain, especially between October and December. Check current travel advice. Weather varies from year to year; this is a guideline based on the climate.
