About Narathiwat

Narathiwat is a city on the southern Gulf coast, close to the Malaysian border, and the capital of the province of the same name. The city has a calm coastline with a promenade and a Malay-Muslim culture. A well-known sight is Wat Khao Kong, a temple with a large Buddha image on a hill. In the province lie Hala-Bala Wildlife Sanctuary, a rainforest area where you can spot special birds, and the Phru To Daeng peat swamp forest. On the coast lie fishing villages with colourful boats. Narathiwat lies in an area where tensions have existed for years, so always check current travel advice beforehand. Those visiting the region find a calm, unspoiled corner of Thailand with its own atmosphere. Dress modestly in mosques and take off your shoes before entering. Visitors who respect local customs are usually welcomed warmly.
